Personalize your public LinkedIn URL address

Would you rather tell someone that they can find your profile in linkedin.com/in/bob instead of linkedin.com/pub/5/89/a895677&?

Here is how to personalize and shorten your public LinkedIn URL address:

  1. Log in to your LinkedIn account
  2. Under the Profile tab of the top menu bar select Edit Profile
  3. Once there, notice that almost under your picture or avatar (in the box with your summary) there is an Edit link besides your LinkedIn address. This link will take you to a page where, on the right-hand side, there is a box with a link to Customize Your Public Profile
  4. Click this link and there you go … a pop up window should open where you can edit your public profile URL and have a personalized, shorter LinkedIn address.

A note with respect to changing your public URL. If you have been given to others the original public URL given by LinkedIn when you created your account, this URL will still re-direct to your new personalized one. However, if you change a personalized URL for another one, this new one will take precedence over the previous personalized one (and without changes to the original). For example, let’s say you chose “nancyb” as your customized public URL but then later you  changed it to something else. e.g. “”nancybal”. People who bookmarked you as “nancyb” will not find you with that URL. Which shows us that it is worth to spend some time to choose our personalized URL the first time!
